Settling In

Chestnuts... (2/5)

So we are settling into our new location in a different neighborhood of Victoria, but we are certainly not unpacked. Yes we have moved again because of the need for more space but we haven't moved far from our last location. We are slowly going through our storage and trying to part with as many things as we possibly do not use. We have less furniture this time around and so unpacking is a wee bit harder a task at the present moment.

While taking a nice stroll on our day off today with P, we both counted moving roughly 4 times in the past 5 years. That's a lot of moves if you really ask me. Add an extra 2 moves from Europe, France and Switzerland and I've done about 8 moves in the last 8 years. Phew - I'm tired just thinking about it all!

There have been many things on my mind lately, considering my lack of posts. Here's a summary of a few of them.

1. Roasting Chestnuts (see yummy photo) - I found this easy roasting recipe. I had no idea it was that easy to do in an oven.
2. Cooking in the oven, and more eating as I haven't had one for the past year!
3. Swimming way too much and not having the energy to blog.
4. Wanting to do more photography and post it but not having the energy or time to do it.
5. Wishing and wanting a vacation but will have to enjoy my few days off that I have around town.
6. Add to that the lack of sunshine, and I can only dream of being on the opposite side of the equator for the next 6 months!

  1. Was thinking of doing a post about chestnuts also, I recently got a bag full during our walk :) So, are they just any chestnuts or some specific type that you can roast and eat?

  2. Settling in somewhere new is always quite a lot of work, but I hope you are both happy with the new appartment :)

  3. We're not allowed to have chestnuts at our house any more since Mr. M broke a tooth on one on New Year's Eve when we were in a remote resort in B.C. When I was a kid we used to do them in the fireplace and they were SO good.

Hope you continue to like your new place. I just loved living in Victoria.

  4. Glad to hear you are settling in. Yea I know, unpacked is another thing but take your time while your at it! :-)

I've been busy planning for the Oslo Blog Gathering 2010 you know. Be aware of the it is moved one week forward - still hoping you can make it you know :-)

  5. The lack of light really gets me.

Are you excited to see the Vancouver Games approaching? We barely hear about them on this side of Canada, and I'm wondering how you guys feel about it.

I used to roast chestnuts in France... love them.

  6. So glad you're moved in, least you're that far along in the process! I'll be joining you soon in that stage. Thankfully, this is my first move since 1998, if you don't count the mini-moves to our apartments in Hannover and Amsterdam. They don't really count. But to move from one country to another has been quite something else for me, dwindling everything down to the bare necessities of life...with a few soulful pieces thrown in. One day the Big Move takes nothing with us but our souls. THAT will be the day! Till then, enjoy the Journey!
