On Vacation

Today's the Big Day - My vacation starts this afternoon and also just so happens to be P's birthday! He turns 29 this year. He's now 3 years younger than me... Hmm I wonder how that one worked!

This Photo is for him! Happy Birthday P!
In the mean time - I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter.
Happy Photohunting too.
I won't be checking in until I'm back in April.

Total Spontaneity

I just did something very crazy today. My girlfriend, who I met while also living in Switzerland, is going to Switzerland during Easter Vacation.

We were chatting in an email and she mentioned it would be so much fun if I'd come along with her. Being the spontaneous person I am, I quickly asked P if he would let me go and he said yes instantly...

I contemplated for the next hr and decided to just go for it, even before my vacation time was officially confirmed. A bit risky, but risk is fun!

So I'm going to Switzerland too!

Yeah I'm currently happier than who knows what..

My details include arriving in Zurich on March 20th. Leaving Zurich March 31st. Yes time is short, but I live in North America and don't get long vacations. And since Vancouver treats me with so much sun, I figured it wouldn't hurt me going to Switzerland.

So If anyone will be near the area, I want to plan ahead for a fun meet up! I want to visit Basel, a thermal bath or two, Zurich, Biel/Bern, Interlaken and maybe Montreux. I won't mention names here but feel free to email me.

Comments are welcome along with any invitations. I don't know 100% what will be happening since I'll probably be with my friend also...

But I'm going to Switzerland and I'm so happy in a crazy way!

Swiss Excitement

I've got the pre-vacation excitement. Actually it hit me on Thursday as I have a lot of prepping to do with P starting a new job, him working odd hours and me leaving on HIS birthday for my dream trip... I can't stop thinking about everything I need to do.

I had to make sure I wasn't getting rusty, it's been a few weeks..
(Vancouver on my morning walk Friday.)

As I'm finding out, I've got a long to do list on vacation and not enough time to do it. At any rate, you won't find me on the computer or Internet unless I'm checking email or trying to get in touch with P since he'll be holding down the fort in Canada.

For those of you who haven't seen some comments, I'm meeting up with one of the regulars on my blog while in Basel. It should be lots of fun! My goal of my trip is to photograph lots, so I'll see how that goes as I'm not so people picture friendly.

Stay tuned for one last post before I leave!

One Week Left

It's only one week until I leave for Switzerland. It's really hard to imagine the time is almost here again.

I've got most of my schedule planned out including a meet up with fellow blogger CS and a few of my close friends.

I'll be traveling lots, probably not blogging at all and trying to relax on my short but incredible vacation.

Sunset Lausanne

I'll be experiencing another time change.

And P will be a continent away from me.

But I'll be in my element enjoying photography..

Now I just have to figure out what I'd like to bring back with me.

Getting excited for sure!

The Downside of Vancouver

Recently, I stumbled upon a Vancouver blog for west coast bloggers. Vancouverite JMB who also frequents the Saturday Photo Hunt wrote a great post about the downsides of living in Vancouver.

She highlights some problems which don't usually get reported to the mainstream media outside of Vancouver as well as some great photos to go along to support the downsides of living in this city.

Of course, rain is the number one issue a lot of us talk about along with affordable living in the lower mainland. According to Wikipedia, "there is an additional 100 millimetres (3.9 in) of precipitation, so places such as North Vancouver on the North Shore Mountains get more rain".

This post really gives you a look at what people face daily here in Vancouver. Vancouver - The Downside - Go check out a different perspective of the downsides of living in this city.

The Weather

I've been paying attention to Swiss weather a lot lately since I'd like to know what I'm getting into when I am in Switzerland. I really don't think it will be any different than Vancouver, just a bit warmer and a lot more sun!
TBF took a few photos of Basel's shocking snow storm while Renny was nice enough to point out how much snow other parts of Switzerland got.

If you want to check out some beautiful snow pics, just visit Sophie.

Another Time Change

I can't believe it's already here for North America, but this weekend we have our Spring forward time change on March 9th. As for the EU, March 30 is the big date. Funny enough, I'll have to experience two time changes this year because of my travels...

"In the European Union, Summer Time begins and ends at 1:00 a.m. Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). It begins the last Sunday in March and ends the last Sunday in October. In the EU, all time zones change at the same moment."

Where is my train?

French blogger Window to France came across an impressive application using Google maps which figures out where Swiss Trains actually are located.

Swisstrains.ch gives the position of Swiss trains live using the application of Google maps.

The application uses a theoretical position of trains. It's well known that Swiss trains are very reliable and are almost always on time. The site will transition to provide the actual position of trains through this site.

My questions: Who Will actually use this application? Is everyone that connected to the Internet that they can find where their train is? Do I really need to know that much about my train coming?

For me, it's definitely not a necessity... What's the practicality for use? With the train operators themselves?
