If you have ever been on vacation in Europe, then you have probably walked past a few prostitutes especially if you were walking in some "red light district" of the city. Since June 2004, there has been a large increase in the number of prostitutes in Switzerland. This number certainly might rise if vote to open the borders to the ten new eastern European states on September 25 passes...The "Yes" vote is certainly on everyone's mind right now. Currently dancers in caberet bars can get an L permit for up to 8 months. Prostitution is legal in Switzerland but prostitutes have to register with city authorities and health authorities and get regular health checks.
Right now the prediction is that some of the women who are already here will register as prostitutes but hopefully word that the market is oversaturated will deter others from coming to Switzerland..
