Old Fashioned - Photo Hunt

I really couldn't decide on photos and so I decided to do two sets, 2 photos from Vancouver & 2 from Switzerland..

A Sunshine Celebration

We actually got a full day of sunshine today...



I'm celebrating! It comes almost as much as you see a full moon, haha.

Swiss Cheese Flashback

I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see a great cheese segment on the Sunday morning news from a business in Vancouver. What makes it even better was flashing back to my time in Switzerland eating the cheeses "les amis du fromage" were speaking about.

My mind came racing in when I heard about the Swiss delicacy Vacherin Mont D'or. This Swiss cheese is from the canton Vaud and was developed because there was insufficient winter milk to manufacture the large cheeses such as Gruyère. Vacherin then became a tradition, much like fondue. Vacherin is produced from the end of September to April each year.

A recipe with this rather pricey Vacherin cheese.

1. Tightly wrap aluminium foil around the round box (do not cover cheese) of Vacherin.

2. Poke the top of the cheese with a fork as if for a pie crust.

3. Insert one or two cloves of garlic for added taste.

4. Pour 100 ml of dry white wine over top of the cheese.

5. Bake at 400^oF for 20-25 minutes.

6. Spoon over boiled baby potatoes. Other versions include serving with prosciutto, fresh bread, or lightly toasted cubes of specialty bread.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Perhaps I've found a slice of Switzerland close by..

My birthday (32) was a lot of fun despite not having seen the sun since Dec 26th.

See how incredible that was! And I didn't even leave North Vancouver.

Sadly I didn't take any photos of our incredible dinner. The starter was an delicious Artichoke, spinach and Swiss Cheese dip that we vow to make at home. Followed by Thai chicken skewers on cabbage tacos dipped in the most incredibly tasting sauces.

Of course P bent over backwards to spoil me like a queen. :)

A Great Request

Seeing that it is my birthday tomorrow (January 12th), I'm giving myself a break from the normal photo hunt. The theme is skinny and since I have been too stressed out working, I haven't taken one photo since about Dec. 26th.

The good news is that P and I are finally recovering after being really sick for about 14 days. It hasn't been fun!

The request I'm asking for my birthday is for everyone to post a short blurb about visiting the animal rescue website. They need to have more visitors in daily so that the pets they house can be fed and cared for. It's a great cause and it's free.

Plus their website is really incredible and there is a lot of great information, even about supporting breast cancer and a few other great causes.

A New Look

Mar inspired me by her great looking template page to change my template, besides I've been sick again and resting waiting to get better. Yes I caught the flu a second time in less than 2 wks! It makes for about 4 days out of 14 or so that I've not been sick.

I was tired of my current template and I also wanted to be able to fix the small error that I just couldn't find. Well besides the haloscan not working in the individual pages, I'm up and running. I'll be making more changes along the way, but it's the start to the new year with a new blog look!
