Weekend Snapshots

My good friend took these photos of me this weekend from the swim meet.

I'm in the first lane.
Posing.  I'm not fond of it, but it's a good shot.

Photo Hunt - Chipped

This weeks Theme is Chipped
Go to Tnchick.com to participate

This theme was pretty hard. Since I knew there was one thing that could remotely work, that is what I took my photo of something chipped.

A chipped plastic fork missing a few bits on the ends....

Happy Hunting!

I'll be hoping for warmer weather with my swim meet on Sunday.

Week Update

We've had slightly warmer weather lately and lots of fog. At times that can be a great thing if you can get up to the mountains to see the incredible views. This photo was sent to me today. Talk about an incredible view someone had from Cypress in North Vancouver.

As well, I am into week 2 of my triathlon training. Everything is going very well as planned. The hardest part is deciding what I can take out of my workouts or switch for another one. I believe as time goes on, I'll adjust more evenly to the schedule. There will be more adjustments next week also.

I've been extremely proud of myself for making the spinning classes. Last thursday was my second class and it was 1 hr 15 mins long. Everyone in the class was a veteran except for 2 of us beginners! I did a 1 hr 10 min spin class yesterday and am gaining a bit more strength and confidence, but those unseated climbs sure hurt! I can literally feel my Hamstrings toning....

Right now, I'm still concentrated on the masters swimming portion where I am swimming and cross training until April. At that point, I plan to make the full transition to a bit more biking and running also.

And this weekend is my first competition of the new year, on the island thankfully. With my computer adapter dying and so many changes, I've been lucky to blog at all. Busy busy, but that's a good thing!

Enjoy the View!

Time Flies

As December is already here, the holidays are just that much closer. I guess it's time I do the weekend wrap up of how I did at the masters swim meet.

I loved the pool in Nanaimo as it was so fast! Some swim pools are just plain slow, but this one felt incredible while I was swimming in it. Part of the reason was for the flush gutters which basically take out all of the wake from when you are swimming. The pool actually had a water slide area, kid play ground, warm up pool and race pool, along with a hot tub, sauna and viewing area. Let me tell you, it's impressive!

Now I only wish that the North Shore would wake up and build a pool like this. You can still have incoming recreation swimmers and families enjoying their day while the meet is taking place. Talk about GREAT planning!

(yes that's me swimming fly)
I ended up impressing myself, but still I'd like to better the times I did. From memory here are the results from the masters meet:

50 Fly - 32.97 - 1st in heat.
50 Back - 34. - 1st in heat
200 IM - 2:40.38 - about 5th overall
200 Breast - 2:55 - 2nd overall, was not thoroughly impressed with the swim as my splits should have been better. Oh well, back to the training board..

Masters Canada has the records and results from the meets too.

We had a 19 yr old and an 89 yr old there on our team at the meet. So impressive.

And yesterday - I came down with the flu.. Fun.. Today I am feeling better, but I can't fool myself into thinking I'm out of the woods just yet...

Weekend Update

So it had been 1 year since my last swim meet.. And I think it turned out pretty well. The travel always kills me and I was quite tired by the time I arrived back home on Sunday evening..

My times were not earth shattering at all but here they are..

400m Free - 2nd in my heat - 1st overall in age group. 5:10.25
100m back - 2nd in my heat - 2nd overall in age group. 1:16.57
100m breast - 8th overall (last in heat) - 1st overall in age group. 1:24.31
(not my best time)
100m fly - 5th overall , 2nd to another female- 1st overall in age group. 1:15.07

Here's one photo from the meet of me.

I only know it's me because of the blue goggles, at UBC.

In other news, Sabine let me know that the Today show was doing their travel show this week which I JUST LOVE. Here's a link to some of what is happening.

Needing A Day Off

Over the weekend, I sat through a course without seeing sunlight. That was difficult to say the least, but 2 days in a row made me sore and stiff.

Yesterday I woke up just as early, but the pay off was much better. I came home as the new British Columbian record holder in the 200m breast (2:52.26), for my age group (30-34). I still got beat by the male next to me by 9 or so seconds. But I bettered my personal best time from last year by 1 second (2:53.49). Now I have 4.5 seconds to shave off to get to the next record (2:47.41). I do have a goal in site..

I wish I could say I have more photos to share, but I'm far too tired to do anything. Maybe by the weekend.

A Busy Life

Lately I haven't been blogging about much, or at least anything interesting. It seems my schedule starts waking up before most sane people, working way too much and then swimming and getting home way later than most sane people. There's a big balancing issue that I have been dealing with, and it hasn't been fun. I somehow find time to get a few photo shots in and well the week starts again. I recognize it's not the way to live.

Having said that, my workout was hard but I swam well. I swim for 1h 15 mins a night right now and usually get in 3600m a workout. A year ago, I just started back and I have definitely made good improvements since then. In fact, last night I did 6 x 200's on 3:10 hold 2:45's for the 1st 3 and then decending as the set stated to 2:43, 2:40, 2:35. Most of those numbers mean nothing to the average person, but they are recorded for later viewing..

You see nothing all to interesting..

Swimming Update

Quick update on the swim meet.

Friday I swam the 200m breast. I won my heat, won the event and bettered my entry time by 10 seconds...

Unfortunately, I missed breaking the BC record by less than a second. So I guess I have a goal now that I'm so close... My time was 2:53.51 just in case you were wondering..

I was so dead tired, didn't get home until 8:30pm! That's late when you need need to get up at 5:30am the next morning to swim again.

Saturday - 400 IM (5:35), 200 Back (2:38). Went about the expected times. I guess it's par for my training. I was really tired in my second event. But my training has been paying off. So I guess we have something to look forward to in the future. I had taken a good 8 plus years off from swimming...

We won't talk about how tired and cranky I am now because it's bad! I took a 1.5 hr nap when I got home...
